Winning a competition in 2005, the 'ARTEM (a combination of 'art', 'technology' and 'management')' project by french firm agence nicolas michelin and associates (ANMA) unites nancy's three top creative institutes - the ecole nationale supérieure d’art de nancy, the ecole des mines pour la technologie, and the ICN business school- with an acclimatized promenade that provides a common space for the three entities to combine their unique fields in a social atmosphere. spanning a distance of 300 meters, the project consists of two parts: a transparent promenade with parallel rows of slender white column trees covered on either side by a curtain wall and supporting two tone polygonal roof panels that reflect the scale and aesthetic of the nearby mountains. the second part, a more traditional structure, like an inhabitable bridge connecting two faculties through the common park, containing auditoria, classrooms, research facilities, food service, green roofs and offices. it is also the largest heat exchanger in france, creating a comfortable micro-climate for students and visitors to share their thoughts, learn, socialize and explore.
